The nearby forests and mountains provide endless opportunities for exploration, be it hiking, fishing, or wildlife watching. As you embrace the solitude and beauty of this untouched region, you will find serenity that is hard to come by in our fast-paced world.
Join us at Alsek River Adventures, where you can experience everything that this remarkable corner of Alaska has to offer. Whether you want to explore all we have to offer or looking for a peaceful retreat, our small part of Alaska awaits.
At Alsek River Adventures, we offer an all-inclusive guided fishing experience on the East Alsek River. Our package includes chartered flights from Yakutat to our river location, with no extra charges for fish processing. We also provide gourmet meals, ensuring you are well fed during your stay. Your only preparations are to arrive in Yakutat, acquire your sport fish license, and bring your own fishing gear. After that, we take care of everything else.
Our primary focus is on fishing for King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Silver Salmon, chum salmon and Pink Salmon. These species are available from mid-May to mid-October, offering plenty of chances for remarkable catches throughout your trip.
Sport Fishing on the East Alsek River
Fishing on the East River presents a unique opportunity for anglers of all skill levels. The river flows through diverse landscapes, offering various fishing spots ranging from tranquil backwaters to more challenging sections with currents.
Common fish species found in the East River include all 5 species of Pacific Salmon. We have Sockeye Salmon, King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Chum Salmon, and Pink Salmon, as well as sea run Dolly Varden trout making it an appealing destination for all skill sets of fishing enthusiasts.
The East river is our home and maintaining respect for the river environment is crucial. Anglers are encouraged to practice catch and release whenever possible and to adhere to the local fishing rules and regulations. The East River's vibrant scenery and rich fishing opportunities provide an experience for all who venture out onto its waters.
Sockeye Fishing
The east river is the only fresh water system in the Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve that has an abundance of sockeye to be caught. These sockeye are bright and beautiful. We will be honest that sockeye are a harder salmon to catch sport fishing then a chum, pink, or silver but that makes it a fun, but not impossible, fish to catch for the seasoned and beginner angler alike. Plus, they have an incredible fight!!!
Silver Fishing
The East river is home to some of the best silver fishing on the Southeast, Alaska coastline. The scenery alone is enough to want to come here, not to mention you won’t be seeing a large amount of people coming here to fish. That is because the East river is a 25 minute bush plane flight out of the small fishing town, Yakutat, Alaska.
Pink Fishing
Pink salmon are one of the most fun salmon species to be caught on a fly! The east river has a great pink run starting in mid-July and ending the first week in August. These fish put up a great fight and are super fun for kids to catch as well.

Duck Hunting and Waterfowl
Sept 1st - October 10th
Drybay is part of the Lost Coast of Alaska. Nestled right on the Pacific Flyway, we are privileged to witness the incredible migration of thousands of birds each season. If you're interested in adding bird hunting to your fishing adventure, just let us know! You're also welcome to join us exclusively for waterfowl hunting—it's an experience you won't forget. The best part about being a small business is that this is completely YOUR trip!
We will lay the foundation to set you up for a successful day of fishing. We will talk about the river levels, tides, weather etc and decide the evening before about the next days schedule.
If you want to have breakfast at 6 am because you want to get on the river as soon as you can then lets go! If you want to sleep in because you took our advice and are waiting for the tide to fall a bit then that’s ok too!
This isn’t one of those
Breakfast is served at 7 every day and you have to come back for lunch at noon and dinner is only served at 6 pm type of places.
We will take a lunch with us if you want to stay out all day and we will come in for dinner when it gets dark if that’s what you want to do.
The river is open, we aren’t fighting people elbow to elbow for space.
This is your trip on your time. We will make the smart decisions for safety and your happiness but this is your schedule.
A typical schedule will be
Generator fires up at 5:00 AM Brandt, Brian or Pat will start getting the coffee ready. Breakfast prep will happen around 5:30.
Breakfast served between 6-7:00
Get ready to leave camp by 7-7:30 am

The same people who are answering the phone when you call, responding to your emails, ordering food, making flight arrangements, etc are the same people you will be fishing and eating dinner with each day. We never want to advertise something that we are not and for clear communication in our offerings, who we are and what we do we require all guests coming in to have a phone interview with us. If we are what you are looking for then we will make the next steps in reserving you a spot!
-
You will fly into Yakutat, Alaska on flight 61. After the jet lands and you gather your things you will make your way over to the blue hanger located at the airport. Ben Child with Aeroexpeditions will then fly you out to our lodge in one of his bush planes.
-
ADF&G regulations for the East Alsek River are 4 silver salmon per day and 8 total silver salmon in possession. That's a healthy amount and typically is between 40-45 lbs of filleted salmon. At the end of your fishing day Brian or Brandt will fillet out whatever salmon you decide to keep for the day and from there you will use our commercial grade Vacuum sealer to vacuum seal the fillets fresh and then we will put them in our freezer to get them frozen before you travel home. We HIGHLY recommend you to get a soft sided cooler bag to take your fish home with you. On your way here they are easy to pack in the bottom of your bag without taking up much weight or room. The cooler bags are also a lot easier to load in and out of the smaller planes that we use. We have a soft sided cooler bag suggestion in our "What do I bring" List on our website.
-
When you put a deposit down for a trip you are holding your booking, so that it is available for you and no one else. If you must cancel your trip and give us adequate notice AND we are able to fill your spot with another person or group, we will apply 100% of your deposit to the following year. This policy is not negotiable and giving Alsek River Adventures a deposit means you understand that there is no refund, no matter what the circumstances. We usually only operate for 6-8 groups during a season so spots are very limited and last minute cancellations will not be refunded.

We are 60 airmiles from the nearest town. You will be flying out to our lodge in a small bushplane. It’s important to keep your items at a minimum and stick closely to the list.
