Adventure Through Remote Alaska

Taking an adventure through our part of remote Alaska offers a unique experience characterized by breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and an unparalleled sense of isolation. The rugged terrain encompasses vast wilderness areas, towering mountains, and pristine waterways, making it a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Travelers can embark on boating expeditions along the serene waters of glacial lakes, where the reflections of snow-capped peaks provide a stunning backdrop. Hiking trails meander through dense forests and across alpine meadows, allowing explorers to witness the rich flora and fauna of the region. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with sightings of bears, moose, and a variety of bird species being common.

Fishing in Alaska's remote rivers and streams is another rewarding adventure. Anglers can cast their lines for salmon and trout in waters often less frequented by others.

Remote Alaska demands respect and preparation. Conditions can change rapidly, and understanding the environment is crucial for safety. Whether navigating by ATV, foot, boat, or small aircraft, preparedness is key. Being with experienced local guides can enhance your experience, providing insights into the land's history, ecology, and cultural significance.

An adventure through remote Alaska is a journey into a pristine wilderness, where the challenges of nature create unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for the untamed beauty of the Last Frontier.

If you're interested in adding bird hunting to your fishing adventure, just let us know! You're also welcome to join us exclusively for waterfowl hunting—it's an experience you won't forget. Frequently asked questions and answers

  • Our Explore Alaska trips are 5 night 6 day trips. We are all inclusive taking care of everything from your gourmet meals, comfortable accommodations, all excursions, 25 minute flight to and from our lodge, taxes etc. It’s all included. If you catch a fish there is no surprise fee for us processing it for you.

2025 Explore Alaska trips are $5,600.00 per person.

  • You will fly into Yakutat, Alaska on flight 61. After the jet lands and you gather your things you will make your way over to the blue hanger located at the airport. Ben Child with Aeroexpeditions will then fly you out to our lodge in one of his bush planes.

  • The same people who are answering the phone when you call, responding to your emails, ordering food, making flight arrangements, etc are the same people you will be fishing and eating dinner with each day. We never want to advertise something that we are not and for clear communication in our offerings, who we are and what we do we require all guests coming in to have a phone interview with us. If we are what you are looking for then we will make the next steps in reserving you a spot!

  • ADF&G regulations for the East Alsek River are 4 silver salmon per day and 8 total silver salmon in possession. That's a healthy amount and typically is between 40-45 lbs of filleted salmon. At the end of your fishing day Brian or Brandt will fillet out whatever salmon you decide to keep for the day and from there you will use our commercial grade Vacuum sealer to vacuum seal the fillets fresh and then we will put them in our freezer to get them frozen before you travel home. We HIGHLY recommend you to get a soft sided cooler bag to take your fish home with you. On your way here they are easy to pack in the bottom of your bag without taking up much weight or room. The cooler bags are also a lot easier to load in and out of the smaller planes that we use. We have a soft sided cooler bag suggestion in our "What do I bring" List on our website.

  • When you put a deposit down for a trip you are holding your booking, so that it is available for you and no one else. If you must cancel your trip and give us adequate notice AND we are able to fill your spot with another person or group,  we will apply 100% of your deposit to the following year.  This policy is not negotiable and giving Alsek River Adventures a deposit means you understand that there is no refund,  no matter what the circumstances.  We usually only operate for 6-8 groups during a season so spots are very limited and last minute cancellations will not be refunded.

    • personal fishing rod & reel - We suggest an 8 weight rod with a floating line. Lots of fishermen use sink tip too. and many bring both.

    • Waterproof rain jacket - This will be one of the most important pieces of gear. Make sure your jacket can withstand 5 days of rain.

    • Fleece pullover or jacket

    • Long underwear base layer tops and bottoms

    • Fleece pants

    • Waders - Another important piece of gear. We are in our waders all day - check for leaks before you come. We personally suggest your wading boots being a size bigger then what you normally wear, you want room for your toes to move. This helps keep your feet warm.

    • Wading shoes (non-felted soles) - Felted soles are illegal in Alaska.

    • Warm, insulated socks - Our favorite socks are Darntough

    • Warm hat

    • Ballcap or fishing hat of some sort

    • Fishing gloves (fingerless if you chose)

    • Warm pair of gloves for to and from the fishing spots

    • Stripping tape - medical tape works too.

    • Jeans or travel pants for after fishing - The main guy and host wears Simms sweat pants 24/7 so its really wear what you are comfortable in!

    • Casual shirts for after fishing

    • Camp shoes -

    • Insect repellant - if you aren't picky on brand there are always a few bottles floating around the camp that other guests have left behind.

    • Sunscreen - if you aren't picky on brand there are always a few bottles floating around the camp that other guests have left behind. Insect head net

    • Polarized sun glasses - We wear SMITH Guides choice - small with the polarized chroma pop brown

    • Reusable water bottle (we also have these in camp just ask!)

    • Camera

    • Forceps or needle nose pliers - We use needle nose pliers. You don't need anything fancy.. amazon has great options.

    • Line nippers

    • Toiletries - Please note we have towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in camp.

    • Flys & Lures - Black and white dolly llamas, Chartreuse and white dolly llamas, pink and white dolly llamas, brown and black dolly llamas, Green and white clouser, pink and white clouser, blue and white clouser  - and many others work great as well.

    • ADF&G Fishing License

    • Soft sided cooler bag link - https://a.co/d/6QZMm0L

    • No hard coolers please

    • We use small bush planes to fly you from Yakutat to our place on the italio. Please keep your gear limited to 1 bag per person - it is best to have a soft sided bag and not a suitcase. Thank you!

  • While we are aware of advancements like Starlink and the ability for iPhones to send texts from anywhere, we will not promote these services at our camp. We prioritize genuine connections without distractions. The concept of disconnecting to reconnect is truly meaningful, and we believe you will appreciate this aspect of your stay with us.

  • In the event of an emergency and you need to contact a family member or loved one in camp urgently, please follow these steps:

    1. Send an email to both Brandt@alsekriveradventures.com and Pat@fishitalio.com. Our team regularly monitors these emails to ensure a timely response.

    2. Alternatively, you can reach out to Ben Child at Aeroexpeditions, our air taxi service, who is available to relay messages to us. 907-521-3898

    3. You also have the option to text 208-989-9625; while responses may take a few hours, you will receive a reply.
